6. Points on the contract

Once you decided which web hosting service you will use, let’s sign a contract. There are easy-to-understand instructions on how to sign a contract in every web hosting service, so please refer to them. In here, I will only mention about the points to note.

In first, prepare your address, email address for contact, and online payment service or credit card.

Also you decide the login ID and password in advance.

It is for getting a contract quickly (^^).

Login screen security is SSL/TLS

SSL/TLS is the telecommunication standard currently, and it performs encrypted communication. Whether it is safe or not, it has a risk decrypted by a man-in-the-middle attack. It is very difficult to carry out, so it possibly can be said of safety, however, it is much safer to finish a contract as soon as possible.

Therefore, prepare your address and others in advance.

Also, you decide the login ID and password in advance.

By the way, the login screen security ( secure login ) is also supposed SSL/TLS. When you logged-in then the login screen does not appear the next, it has much higher level of security. It is called Open ID. It secures more because there is no exchange of ID and password after the first login.

You can lie about your name and address

Because the identification of contract is supposed to complete by email, there is no need to input your name and address correctly on the registration information. This info can be rewritten later freely, there is no need to describe the truth at first. It is one way is to tell a lie considering the case you get hacked.

At least, you should tell a lie during the trial period.

If you have a post office box, you should choose this one.

The lie about your name likely will cause a problem with false statements, but it doesn’t a matter unless revealed (^^;. Keep in mind that hackers are supposed to manage the personal informations by name. It is one way is to change your name to a relative who lives with you. It can avoid false entry.

You cannot tell a lie at your contact email. As you will need to know the emergency as soon as possible, you should set the email address of your smartphone. And when asked to enter your mobile phone number, do not enter it unless it is required.

Anyway, I cannot owe any responsibility for the damage caused by these (-_-).

Payment should be done by online payment service

Thinking about the case that your administration screen is hacked, you should use online payment services such as PayPal or Apple Pay.

There is no problem to use a credit card, because it will be hidden the number without the last 4 digits, but it is safer to use online payment service than. Also, when you will want to use a paid plugin, it is often required PayPal or ApplePay, so it is better to prepare one of them in advance.

Even if a free plugin, you will want to donate it as is the excellence (^^;.

So, in this time, you should register the online payment service on your smartphone. For Android, PayPal is good. Payment in foreign currencies is possible, although an additional fee is needed. For iPhone, register Apple Pay from the Wallet app. With Apple Pay, the fee is only changed by the rate fluctuations. Anyway, both are no charge only for registration.

Do not set up email account

Because it will add one more entrance for hackers, you do not set up webmail of web hosting service at the contract. It can be set later freely. It is just okay the notification of the service is only obtained by contact email.

Many hosting services do not set up email account at the contract supposedly.

At the contract, you will install WordPress at the same time, then you must set Administration Email Address ( contact email of WordPress ) for this. It is good to set up Gmail for this. But if you don’t turn on the notification settings, it will be late to notice emergency emails such as ” Your site is hacked “. It’s better to use your smartphone’s email address, but if you don’t want to get mixed up with other emails, it’s good to turn on Gmail notification only to your smartphone. It is the way to use Gmail for work.

When you want to send the notifications only to your computer, operate your computer. You may be confused for the way is different, but it is the same from ” settings ” to ” Desktop Notifications ” then turns it on, in short.

Do not set up FTP account

Because it will add one more entrance for hackers, you do not set up FTP account at the contract. WordPress does not need FTP software, so you don’t use the file manager of web hosting service.

In the case of automatically setting up FTP account at the contract, it is good to delete the FTP account afterwards. The service which uses cPanel can do this. In the case of you cannot delete FTP account, there is no way without hiding the files. It is no problem because hidden files can be written even, but this configuration is twisted (-_-).

Decide an initial domain and your original domain in advance

It is supposed that you are only asked to enter the initial domain at the contract. Once you decide the domain name, you cannot change it. So you should think carefully before entering it. The original domain is supposed to make after signing the contract. Even if ” domain name ” is displayed on the contract, it just means an initial domain.

You do not enter your original domain at this initial domain. In my experience, I input an initial domain as same as my original domain, when I wanted to make the original domain, it was rejected. It was supposed that the name of my original domain was taken hostage ( it was a trend at that time ). Therefore, this site becomes ” michirojohn1.com ” (^^;. Furthermore, when I changed the plan, I was refused to set the new domain as ” michirojohn ” (-_-;, so the current initial domain becomes “michiroujohn.***.jp”.

It is supposedly unregistered if you will leave a domain name for a year, you can use it again ( in fact, michirojohn1 is such a name ). It’s good to decide your original domain from the start, and you don’t enter it to ” domain name ( initial domain )”. It may not be taken hostage.

So, you decide both the initial domain and the original domain in advance.

Make sure that you should choose a unique domain name which is not similar to others. It would be easy to rank high in searches. For example, my original domain is ” michirojohn1.com “. It is nowhere. When you type ” michirojohn ” in the search, my site will appear at the top of the search. This is what ” easy to rank high ” means supposedly. When typing ” WordPress “, it is not sure where my site is (^^;.

It’s just a matter that ranking high is only in this keyword.

There is another way that you will aim ” niche ” for domain name. It’s the way to invite the customers who have accessed the internet with other purpose (^^;.
For example, ” HD1 ” — it is a celestial body which is not sure a star or galaxy in the farthest place currently. When you enter it on the search, you can hit many product names such as supplements and video cameras. Isn’t it a chance to invite customers from other genres ? You choose the site name as like ” HD1 — a site talking about far universe.”, and also you choose the domain name as like ” sextans-talk.com “. Sextans is a constellation which is ” niche ” only astronomy funs know about. Isn’t it funny to talk about the universe on this site then ?!

It is often said that the domain name should have a relation with site name, but I don’t understand it (^^;. The domain name not similar to anyone is very convenient for knowing which pages are currently being read. It can also be useful for knowing the latest trend of access. Just typing ” michirojohn “, I can know the trend of my site. Furthermore, just adding ” /wp-admin ” directly below the domain name in the address bar, I can easily access the login screen. I can edit my site even in a computer store.

If you want to rank high in searches with major keyword, I recommend you name your site to do so. You cannot change the domain name, but you can change the site name freely afterwards. If it doesn’t work well, just change it.

Also, it is just okay that top-level domain is cheap one. It needs fee and the price varies depending on the item. “.com ” and “.net ” are very cheap. It is said that high-priced items make the rank higher in search results, but it just looks an impression. Surely, we can see the sites of “.com ” and “.net ” mostly (^^;.
