Categories and tags are related to the search hit rate, and if you want to get the top of the search list, you should set them firmly. This is called SEO (Search Engine Optimization). It may look difficult for beginners, but it’s not so difficult actually.
Where are Category and tag ?
Category is usually used for a line-up of menu bar. Tag is used for “related posts” or leading to other articles. By default,category is “uncategorized” and no tag. It is insufficient for SEO.

Keywords the search engines index are mainly four ways: “title”, “heading”, “category” and “tag”.
However, it is said that Google’s search engine understands the full content, and Microsoft’s Copilot obviously responds understanding the content, so SEO becomes being unnecessary. But it is supposed that the keywords in title and heading are still effective to get the top of search, so set them as a basic operation.
As WordPress measures for SEO, you just choose the words for the above objects.
There is an easy way.

When you type a keyword into the search, suggestions will appear in a drop-down menu. These are the keywords that users are typing into. Referring to these, you will create “title”, “heading”, “category” and “tag”.
It’s not a dream to get the top of the search just doing so.

You can change the words of category and tag any time. It’s better of the URL (slug) is shorten. URL is also a string that search engines index.

Google Analytics has a report on which keywords your visitors are using to visit your website. Quite useful reference.

The above chart is arranged in order of the number of impression (the times your site was displayed in the search or others). The percentage of the right side is the actual clicks (CTR). It is obviously few that are used in the title or heading. Considered that the search engine understands the content.
Categories and tags might not be so important about it.
Look at the lower ranks.

As moving down, it is seen the words in titles and headings. I think it needs to make an effort to bring them up to the top. In CTR (percentage of clicks from display), the words of “authenticator” and “使い方 (how to use)” are often seen. In the site like mine, it is considered that these words should be used a lot. The keyword I don’t use is “QR code”. It’s better to set it to heading.
In the tags, the words of “conoha wing”, “blocks animation” and “easy table of contents” are also seen. But CTRs are 0% all, so it is considered that they are not reached to the people who want to know them. If the number of impression is high, it’s better to rewrite the content or change the excerpt.
There is no category’s word. Dare to say “wordpress” (^_^;.
I’m using them for the menu bar, so I don’t care. To tell the more, the word of “Jetpack” has high CTR. Many people would be confused (^^;.
