I use uBlock Origin for this kind of thing, but it’s also an ad blocker, so it violates YouTube’s terms of service. I want to leave it out, but the Internet world is full of dangers, so I couldn’t leave it.

Accessing this site, reCAPTCHA-like is popped up, then ask something of allowance for notification. Obviously it’s danger. . .

I choose ‘Block’ without any hesitation. And then, I can browse this top page normally. No reaction comes from SmartScreen. As I think it safe, I will move to another page. But when I moved, a strange image would appear. It’s like this.

They fight with police !!

At the same time, a warning dialog started sounding from MacAfee. I was surprised to close the site and clear all Edge browsing data. Then peace came back again. During this time, any SmartScreen wasn’t coming out.

To be safe, I will perform a BIOS rewrite.

Days after, I accessed this site using InPrivate window. The reCAPTCHA-like was not popped up, but only an ad screen appeared normally.

Conclusion —— SmartScreen is better

Comparing with “uBlock Origin” on the same site, it seems that new SmartScreen can block harmful sites the more. However, SmartScreen can just block the known harmful sites, but cannot block the unknown harmful sites.

uBlock Origin blocks all the pop-up screens, so it doesn’t occur such reCAPTCHA-like struggle above. But it’s not perfect. It cannot block a close button which is customized. It means that it is possible to plant malware disguised as a close button. At this point, I suppose that SmartScreen is better because it blocks the site access from the beginning. It becomes hard to make wrong actions. It’s also good that not violate YouTube’s terms of service.

I will use SmartScreen from now on.
